The Field of the Cloth of Gold

Field of the Cloth of Gold was the meeting place of HENRY VIII of England and FRANCIS I of France, near Calais, France (1520). Both kings brought large retinues, and the name given the site indicates the splendor of the pageantry. The political results were negligible, because Henry had decided to ally himself with Holy Roman Emperor CHARLES V rather than with Francis.

At this event, Jousting, Archery, Combat on foot and combat at the barriers was partaken in by the best of the best. The royalty of France, England and Italy. The rules of the tournament were designed for saftey as well as compititon between serious Martial Artists of the day.
