THE COMMAND- REST PIKES-
Pike butt on ground, stand relaxed with care to keep the pike perfectly vertical and not
touching other pikes. This is the primary operating position of a pike. All other positions are
used when this one is not possible.
CHAPTER ONE-
PIKE HANDELINGTHE COMMAND-
SHOULDER PIKES-

Butt of pike in right hand, steadied with the left, point high and slightly to the rear.
Care is taken to keep all pikes lined up in their rows and files as well as maintaining uniform
angles. This can be used as a marching position but is subject to entire formations falling over
backwards at once. For the individual, keeping from falling backwards or
dropping the pike to the rear is the greatest challenge of this position.
